  • The return of the Christian Right.
As the president prepares to address a joint session of Congress on Wednesday night to press for health-care reform, conservative Christian leaders are rallying their troops to oppose him, with online town hall meetings, church gatherings, fundraising appeals, and e-mail and social networking campaigns. FRC Action, the lobbying arm of [...]

  • But he did it first!
  • Anyone who has been a parent has been exasperated by one kid trying to excuse his behavior by pointing a finger at a sibling. Blaming someone else is a sure sign of immaturity. Accepting responsiblity is the first step toward adulthood.

If there is one thing we can be sure of, Republicans are a pretty childish bunch.

  • The Party of Failure
  • The Republican Party of the United States is the biggest failure in United States history. And has failed most spectacularly in the past twelve months. If it were a business it would be in bankruptcy court. If it were a marriage, it’s partner would file for divorce. Non-support and spousal abuse.

Republicans failed so badly it is hard to know where to begin to fix the problems they created. They are so numerous and so crippling that the dam has not holes, but has failed altogether.

  • Bismark and Health Care
  • Two factors alone–universal access according to ability to pay–and ending fee-for-service would reform the U.S. health care system. There is nothing “socialist” about it. It makes sense and, as the President said in his address last night, would make us more secure and more free.

  • Why We are in Dire Straits
  • Income inequality. What it means is the rich got richer. Much richer.
Two-thirds of the nation’s total income gains from 2002 to 2007 flowed to the top 1 percent of U.S. households, and that top 1 percent held a larger share of income in 2007 than at any time since 1928, according to an [...]

Pragmatism?

Whether a philosophy, a party, or a movement, Pragmatism is the politics of the marjority of Americans. Neither Democrat nor Republican, liberal nor conservative, the middle of our great Republic is Pragmatic. We care about solutions to problems, not winning arguments. Good ideas are needed and they can come from either side. Most middle class Americans are one accident, one illness, one job loss from becoming destitute. From the late 1960s until the present economic collapse, the middle class has been squeezed. According the chief economic advisor to Barack Obama, Lawrence Summers, middle class Americans have written a check of $10,000 a year to the top 2% of all Americans. The income disparity between rich and middle class in this U.S. is great. It is also wrong policy. Blue collar middle class is barely a memory. Manufacturing jobs, union jobs, have been sent to factories overseas. Many white collar jobs have followed. The economic and governmental policies of the past have been a plague on middle class families. Every year, the gap between rich and middle class has increased while the gap between the definition of working poor and median incomes has narrowed. Middle class Americans may either be striving for upward mobility or seeking security for their families. We are doctors and auto mechanics, lawyers and plumbers. We are America's Great Middle Class and we demand that our politicians listen to our needs. We have the power to take back America. We are pragmatic in our approach, and practical in our philosophy. If it helps the middle class, it is good for America.
